Boldly engraved with parallel lines stained sumi black, wistful swirling mane terminates in a relief of balls of fur, large jaws opened into the curvature of a laughing expression, with head turned and looking out to his left, eyes are inlaid with sea coral (umimatsu). Depicted in a seated posture, this shishi netsuke is fully realized in the round with robust strength compacted into a tactile triangular form. It is in very good aged condition.
