Eagle Wood Okimono

Vintage Japanese Carved Wood Okimono
Eagle
Soaring Above Clouds

Signature: Unsigned, Circa: early 20th Century

H 6.5 in.(16.5cm), W 7 in.(18cm), D 4.5 in.(11.5cm)

Crackline, overall very good condition!

A soaring eagle hovering above swirling clouds. Realistically carved and polished with a reddish brown oil finishing, depicting the great bird with beautiful overlapping feathers and extended four-toed talons, mounted on top of an elaborately carved through labyrinthine pedestal, of a stylized representation of Japanese cloud motif. The white pine (Miyajima) okimono is wonderfully preserved with all its intricacies intact; with one horizontal split near the base in the back, the statue is overall in very good condition.
