fine ivory carving of a doctor’s lady, a voluptuous female nude defined by a naturally
organic fullness of line. Sumptuously carved, this young woman in recline wears
two bracelets around her wrists a counter balance to her delicately bound feet.
Her countenance, deftly but simply carved, evokes the play of female mystery.
Her hair defined by fine striations and a loose whimsical chignon, nearly bursts
from its binding. This polished, dense crème-colored ivory at one time designed
as a snuff bottle with the opening in the lower left-hand foot used as a container.
The ivory is placed in a carved wooden, ebony-tone base and is in excellent condition.
