stained Japanese maple wood (momiji) carving of an impeccable model of a cicadidae,
with striking vivid double-inlaid for two expressive compound eyes, layered fore
and hind wings folded above the exoskeleton, two himotoshi openings between six
jointed legs on the abdomen, head, thorax, and contours are superbly rendered
with unembellished realism, burnished to a silky surface in high hand finish;
Signed on a circular reserve: Kitsitoshi, a superb showa period carver in the
mid 20th century.
