Head Up
Signature: Gyokuichi, Circa: Edo, 19th Century Recorded artist
in The Comprehensive Study Based On The MT Hindson Collection by Neil K Davey
#403 H
1.75 in.(4.5cm), W 1.25 in.(3cm), D 0.75 in.(2cm)
Condition: crack line, o.a. good! A
19th century crouching boar by Gyokuichi, a recorded netsukeshi in "The Comprehensive
Study Based On The MT Hindson Collection" by NK Davey. The aged netsuke is depicting
a wild boar squatting on its haunches, its head slightly turned to the right,
a pair of large tusks framing an imposing snout, hair raised in a ridge running
down to its back. A straight out and effective design that created an aggressive
stance of the beast. The netsuke is carved in the usual organic material, polished
to show distinct markings and striations, with cream white patina, age related
crack lines and usage worn. Overall it remains in good condition.
