This
magnificent, 19th century Tibetan gilded bronze is a luminous alchemical evocation
of the Medicine Buddha. This Buddha reveals, illumination and equipoise in his
peaceful and artfully articulated countenance: The beauty of human form fused
with the divine luminosity. The ajana chakra is exquisitely and significantly
marked. The seashell ears are artfully elongated, signifying the noble deep listening
that hears all the cries of the world. A perfect gold teardrop tops the ushnisha.
The hair is rendered in fine coils. Bhaisajyaguru’s robes are of particular note
here. An intricate floral filigree pattern was etched onto the sumptuous flowing
robes after the initial casting. The lotus he sits upon is full and flowered with
intricate ornamentation shaping the base. In his hands he holds a bowl of amrita,

filigree and raised conch motif surrounds this Medicine Buddha: each conch displays
a delicate spiral curl. This potent evocation of this powerful healing deity is
is in very good condition.
